Erling Haaland has become the fastest player to score 50 Premier League goals, reaching the milestone in just 48 games. The Norwegian striker netted twice in Manchester City's 4-0 win over Norwich City on Saturday, breaking the previous record of 65 games held by Andy Cole.

Haaland, who joined City from Borussia Dortmund in January 2023, has been a goal-scoring machine since his arrival in England. He has scored 28 goals in 23 games in the Premier League this season, leading the race for the Golden Boot. He has also scored 10 goals in six games in the Champions League, helping City reach the quarter-finals.

Haaland is now the quickest player in the competition's history to reach 20 goals, 30 goals, 40 goals and 50 goals. Only Micky Quinn can match his six games to reach 10 goals. Haaland has scored against 18 of the 19 teams he has faced in the Premier League, with only Brentford managing to keep him quiet.

The 23-year-old has been praised by his manager Pep Guardiola, who described him as a "phenomenon" and a "beast". Guardiola said Haaland has a "unique" combination of physicality, technique and mentality, and that he is still improving every day.

Haaland's record-breaking feat has also earned him admiration from his peers and rivals. Former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, who held the record for the fastest 40 goals in 68 games, congratulated Haaland on Twitter, saying he was "in awe" of his performance. Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah, who is second in the scoring charts with 25 goals, also praised Haaland, saying he was "a joy to watch".

Haaland will have a chance to add to his tally when City face Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday. City are currently second in the table, four points behind leaders Chelsea, with eight games remaining. Haaland said he is focused on helping his team win the title and the Champions League, and that he is not concerned about individual records.

"I'm happy to score goals, but the most important thing is to win games and trophies with this team," Haaland said. "I don't think about the records, I just try to do my best every time I play. I have a lot of respect for the players who have scored a lot of goals in this league, but I don't compare myself to them. I just want to write my own story."
