Arsenal and Liverpool Eye Feyenoord's Justin Bijlow
Feyenoord goalkeeper Justin Bijlow has confirmed he is open to a move to either Arsenal or Liverpool amid ongoing speculation about his future. The 26-year-old shot-stopper, who is currently preparing to represent the Netherlands at Euro 2024, has attracted interest from both Premier League giants.
Bijlow, identified by Arsenal as a potential replacement for backup goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, could be available for £10 million. Ramsdale is expected to leave the Emirates this summer, with Newcastle and Chelsea rumored to be interested in securing his services.
Liverpool, under the guidance of incoming manager Arne Slot, who coached Bijlow for the last three seasons at Feyenoord, are also keen on the Dutch goalkeeper. Slot's strong working relationship with Bijlow might give Liverpool an edge in the transfer race, where Bijlow would serve as the backup to Alisson.
In an interview with Voetbalzone, Bijlow addressed the speculation, saying, "Will I stay at Feyenoord? You never know, do you? That's football, you never know that. I'm ambitious, I've always said that. If the opportunity presents itself and a good club comes from abroad, I am open to it."
When asked specifically about Arsenal and Liverpool, Bijlow added, "Those are two very nice clubs. Of course, it is always nice to be mentioned at big clubs. As I said, I'm ambitious. As long as I play for Feyenoord, I will give everything for that and first I just want to focus on the Dutch team."
Bijlow's ball-handling skills and dominance in one-on-one situations make him an attractive option for both clubs, known for their goalkeepers' involvement in build-up play and high defensive lines. However, Bijlow's fitness could be a concern; a 10-week injury layoff saw him miss the March international double-header, and he has been absent for 41 games over the last two seasons due to injuries.
The Netherlands, managed by Ronald Koeman, will kick off their Euro 2024 campaign against Poland in Hamburg on June 16, followed by matches against France and Austria in Group D.
As the transfer window approaches, fans of Arsenal and Liverpool eagerly await Bijlow's decision. His potential move could significantly impact both clubs' strategies for the upcoming season.
