Ian Maatsen joins Borussia Dortmund on loan

 


Chelsea full-back Ian Maatsen has agreed to join Borussia Dortmund on loan until the end of the season, according to recent reports by BBC and The Guardian12. The deal does not include an option for Dortmund to make the deal permanent. Maatsen, who is 21 years old, has started only one Premier League game this season under Mauricio Pochettino despite Chelsea’s injury problems 2.

Maatsen almost left Chelsea last summer, when Burnley had a £31.5m offer accepted on deadline day to sign him after a successful season on loan there, but the Dutchman decided to stay 1Chelsea accepted the offer from Burnley, but Maatsen did not want to make the move 1The Blues are likely to be open to selling the 21-year-old in the summer as they look to comply with Financial Fair Play rules after heavy investment in the last three transfer windows 1.

This loan move to Borussia Dortmund could be a great opportunity for Maatsen to gain more playing time and experience in a new environment.
