In a move that has soccer fans buzzing, World Cup winner and former Premier League star Olivier Giroud has announced his departure from AC Milan to join Major League Soccer. The 37-year-old Frenchman is set to reunite with his former France teammate Hugo Lloris at Los Angeles FC, the club co-owned by Hollywood icon Will Ferrell.

Giroud, who has had a storied career with 48 goals in 130 appearances for AC Milan, confirmed that the next two games would mark the end of his tenure with the Italian club. “My career will continue in MLS,” stated Giroud, expressing pride in his achievements over three seasons with Milan. Despite the emotional farewell, Giroud assured fans that Milan would forever hold a special place in his heart

The forward’s contract with LAFC is expected to last until December 2025, with a reported annual salary of $3.2 million. Prior to settling on the United States, Giroud was linked with potential moves to Saudi Arabia and other European clubs. His decision to join MLS comes as LAFC currently ranks fifth in the Western Conference, with five wins out of 12 games this season.

Giroud’s illustrious career includes a Serie A title with Milan in the 2021/22 season, as well as successful stints at Arsenal and Chelsea, where he accumulated 90 goals and 28 assists in 255 Premier League matches. His trophy cabinet boasts the Champions League, Europa League, four FA Cups, and the 2018 World Cup with France.

Hugo Lloris, who joined LAFC in December, had spent over a decade with Tottenham before making the move. The addition of Giroud to LAFC’s roster is expected to bolster the team’s performance and bring a wealth of experience to the MLS.

As Giroud prepares for his new chapter in Los Angeles, the football world eagerly anticipates the impact he will have on the growing league. With his track record of success and leadership, Giroud’s presence in MLS is sure to be a game-changer.
